This story reminds me of how grateful I am for the relatively few people in my eighty years of life who have spoken sincere and loving truth to me which has altered my path forward, and moved me out of a moment (or a week or a month!) of useless self-involvement and whining about an uncomfortable fate.One is a young Australian woman travelling through Rome, fifty years or so ago, who listened politely to my whine, and then reminded me calmly that ‘no one enjoys being around someone who is always miserable.’ I have never forgotten the gift of those words,and the way in which they were offered as simply an observation, rather than a judgement.They were able to redirect me in confronting the problems with which I was dealing.I believe I encountered in her the ‘grandmother’s heart’ and after all these years still honor her quiet wisdom and offer thanks to the universe which placed her along my path in just that moment.Good effort on silence..thanks…you might enlarge the research etc….e.g. edgar alan poe’s fable and poem, the paintings of caspar david friedrich, david hinton’s existence, silence is my homeland and river for a sidewalk by gilean douglas and nietzsche’s if you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss gazes also into you….jamesThe irony is I came to this article because I for the most part agree with the premise of the article. Critique groups can be a massive waste of time but not for the reasons in this article. Which appears to centre upon the writer’s particular distaste for certain personalities. I stopped attending them because I discovered for the most part, I’m better at finding holes in my own work than others. Other writers are often focused upon the conventions of their own favoured style or popular taste, which isn’t what I write. So I got a lot of. advice on how to write to the popular taste, which is essentially useless to me.After reading this I realized that I was never  taught the importance of building relationships with others.  I heard my parents tell us about maintaining good grades and making sure that we follow rules, but seldom we were taught on how to build relationship with others.  Whatever i have learned, has been through observation of what I have seen and observed around me.  I have been blessed and lucky to have had such good role models in my life such as teachers and friends….But with todays technology I have seen where people in the office even in schools dont bother to build relationships…it is like everyone is too busy to care  or talk…..we text each other…we send emails to the person in the office next door to us….its a crazy world, but we can change it one person at a time…and thats what your doing. Business Insider, Tech Crunch and others crank out more articles than usual with lines like “Apple will kill the credit card industry” when you still need a credit card to use their new system and “Switzerland should be terrified” when the Apple Watch targets a completely different market than say Jaeger LeCoultre.
